After getting from the Technical Education And Skills Development Authority or TESDA Certificate 4 which the highest certificate awarded to a Culinary course in the country, Llana received another certificate from TESDA this time NC II – a national certificate given to qualified culinary graduates for working abroad.
The thrust of TESDA is to formulate a comprehensive development program for middle-level manpower based on the National Technical Education and Skills Development Plan. It aims to provide for a reformed industry-based training program including apprenticeship, dual training system and other parallel schemes. It is the result of a merger of Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), Department of Education, Culture and Sports (DECS) and other government bureaus.

I am paying tribute to all the moms (specially to my Mom and Ate Uchie) so I am posting this meme here as well. Find my favorite quote just below this artwork.

It is indeed great to be a mother. Motherhood is such a great blessing. In a child's eye, the mother is the most beautiful woman in his life, for it is from her that he was loved and cherished unconditionally.
Share your favorite Mother's Day quotes and place your blog/name right after the piece of artwork.

Kids here are crazy over “Jelly Shoes”. Those soft, colorful, transparent jelly-looking shoes every kid wishes to have. I went to a mall near my place to buy one for Gabby, but didn’t find any! (Unfortunately, that mall does not carry those kind. Huh?) I remember seeing my niece on those and overhearing her mom (my cousin) saying she bought it in the market. So I went to BF market and voila! It’s there! It only costs P78.00 but I was able to get it at P75.00 (I saved P3.00! Yahoo, lol!) Gabby tried them on and it sure looked good on her. She said those were comfortable on her feet. She loves wearing it even at home. No fuss. She can wear it all the time. Anyway, it is not expensive. I can afford to buy her a new pair!

I got a text advisory from my SMS provider about the company's Account Retention Program (sort of a loyalty program). Their loyal subscribers are being offered new cellphone units for FREE upon renewal of their contract with the company. So I right away (since its wireless center is a 10 minute drive from where I live) and got my free phone. There were around 4 cellphone brands to choose from. I chose the Nokia 2630.
It is slim and sleek, light and it has just about the necessary features I wanted in a cellular phone. It has bluetooth, clear VGA camera and video, spacious phone memory, colored, with FM radio, web applications, etc. I tried taking pictures with it and am quite satisfied with its clear resolution given it is only VGA. Here are some pictures taken using my new simple yet very useful phone.

Have you ever experienced getting an email from a stranger? By which the message content is already about a marriage proposal? My normal reaction to this is to ignore it, knowing that it is some kind of a hoax. I don’t believe that a person would easily fall in love with another person by merely seeing a picture of that person on the net. I would understand if the content expressed in the email is just to start a friendly relationship with you. But a marriage proposal!!! I think it is too good to be true. I am not being condescending. But I just really find it absurd. However, when I remembered some stories about love relationships that have sprung out from the cyberspace, it got me thinking twice, referring to a possibility of finding a partner over the net. I suddenly remember a distant relative of mine who met his life partner through the internet. He was intentionally looking for a wife at that time, he saw the profile of the girl and started the “courtship” stage with a chat. Fortunately the girl responded, they threw email exchanges, pictures, then eventually, talk on the web cam. It was a six month cyber relationship when he proposed marriage. The girl accepted it without batting an eyelash. He decided to go to the US (where the girl is situated. My cousin has traveled to the US since his relatives also live there) and got married there.
Yes, anything is possible with God. Miracles do happen in this day and age. His wisdom is far greater than we can ever imagine and think of.
As with that stranger who sent me a marriage proposal, I replied to his mail not accepting (of course!) his “proposal” but stating very clearly the reasons and my principles behind it. Nonetheless, I offered him my friendship. I know that I can share with him a lot of things about life and my experiences with God. Today, our email exchanges have become more frequent. It is always good to share something worthwhile with a friend.
I called the manufacturer this morning, answered their questions about the product. The customer representative who took my call said the codes seem to be in order however, since it was sold at a significantly lower cost, she has doubts that it is not original. Unfortunately, she doesn’t have a way to confirm the authenticity of the product, she said that all she can do is to prepare a report about my inquiry and forward it to the department concerned. She just advised me to avoid purchasing Olay products outside the authorized stockists or stores. Oh well, it didn’t help a lot. So I rushed to the mall to buy the “original” version of the exact packaging. I compared it with the one I bought from a friend. The codes are in order, the scent, consistency and texture are the same. My mom said that she thinks it is not a fake so she is continuously using it.
I guess all I can say is for us to be extra careful and wiser with our dealings. Take care!

My mom is a user of Olay Total Effects 7 in 1 anti ageing cream. It costs P645 in department stores and drugstores. I came across a friend who offered me the same product at a lower cost of P500.00, it is imported from Thailand, she said. So I shared with my Mom the good news and she purchased one right away. Though she has not encountered any problems with it as I write this, I was bothered by learning from other friends that there have been a lot of FAKE Olay products circulating in the market today especially at some thrift malls in Manila. The fake ones cost between P150.00 and P250.00, and are orange or peach in color as compared to that of the original one which is suppose to be off-white. Most fake products has the “Made In Thailand” tag, so I heard. Though I know that the manufacturer of authentic Olay products do outsource from India and Thailand, I decided to look it up over the internet and was surprised to find out blogs and discussion posts regarding this issue. These fake products are swarming over eBay as well. A lot of people shared their “not so good” experience and disappointments from apparently purchasing a fake Olay. There was one whose skin reacted to the product after applying it on her face for a week. She ended up spending more by going to her dermatologist to fix the problem. Oh no! I didn’t want that to happen to Mom so I checked the product I bought from my friend – the color, texture, scent, its packaging, labels, etc. I compared it with the empty Olay container which we bought from a reputable department store. They are basically the same except for the labels at the back. The one from Thailand is (of course) written in Thai! Oh no, so how do I spot an authentic one from a counterfeit? I kept on reading, until I saw, in between exchanges, that a “Lot Code” found at the bottom of the bottle will vouch for its authenticity. So in other words, I checked it with reference (given by the manufacturer as written) to the instructions specified in the post. And I’m so glad to know that the code reflects its authenticity. Well, it leads me to thinking, can they also tamper with the codes??? To be really sure, I will call the manufacturer’s customer service first thing tomorrow morning for verification. I will keep you updated.
So I suggest, be smart! Do not get easily be swayed and get attracted by products offering lower prices without really knowing its source. You might end up wasting money and full of regrets! Take care.

The price of rice has gone up from P25.00 to P35.00 a kilo. Our country is facing rice crisis today! The shortage of supply left the Filipinos with costly rice in the market. There have been reports about food riots already happening in different places here because of this sharp increase in the price of rice. The government is devising a new distribution system for state-subsidized rice or the so called "NFA" rice for implementation this week. Remember that NFA rice is supposed to come out cheaper than the commercial rice products, to provide the consumers (specially the lower class) good grains in affordable prices. But even that is not enough to answer to the demand of the Filipino people. While the government is planning on the new distribution system, President Arroyo has endorsed a wage increase to help workers cope with the price hike. Also, imported rice from the US will be available in the retail store outlets soon at P25 per kilo.
How did we reach this point? Rice is our staple food and the Philippines as an agricultural land is capable of producing enough supplies to meet the demands of the Filipino people. If the government cannot sustain its rice produce - the very basic need of its people, need we expect more from the government ?
Race tagged me with this! We got the same result. I knew I answered fairly well. I just wished there were more appropriate questions. I believe that parents should be PARENTS to their child and not a mere FRIEND. You know what I mean! Our children should respect the authority God has given us to rule over them. I am my child's parent!

I’ve discovered a very effective insect repellant lotion called BIONEEM recently. I said very effective because I have tried it on Gabby and myself. It literally keeps mosquitoes away from us. We all know that there have been dengue outbreaks in some places in Manila, and I understand how fatal it is to be infected with such. So I make it a point to that Gabby is safe and protected.
Bioneem's active ingredient is an extract from seeds of the neem tree which is found in several tropical countries like India and Africa. It disrupts the hormonal balance of insects causing it to die before molting to the next life stage. Insects do not develop immunity from this since it is natural and organic therefore, environment friendly. Unlike other highly commercialized insect repellants in the market today, Bioneem is safe for children and INFANTS. It is also safe to apply on the face, non toxic, has a non greasy formula and a pleasant mild scent. There are also a lot of products with the neem i.e. for your garden, insect bite ointment, anti bacterial liquid, etc.
I highly recommend this product to ALL parents. Let's keep our kids and surrounding "dengue free".
It was a humid Sunday afternoon as Gabby and I went off to High Street at Bonifacio Global City in Taguig to meet with my friends. It is a new place at "The Fort" where condominium units are located, surrounded with a variety of stores ( ie clothes, apparel, books and fancy restaurants) in an open space. There is a 3 storey bookstore at a corner that provides a venue for children to sit and read books. At the second level is a coffee shop where parents can hangout, talk with friends while the kids are having fun with the wide array of wonderful books. I find this a brilliant idea!
The focal point is a park with sprawling bermuda grass and several bench for hanging out. Most teenagers are seen seated in the grass, in a circle, children running around playing, it has become a place where families would go to, to enjoy spending time together on weekends. And since "pet dogs" are in today (since a lot of Hollywood actors and actresses are seen cuddling their pets on TV), you will see different breeds of dogs around the place, being walked by the owners. Dressed and groomed (yes both the owner and the pet! lol), it is an entertaining sight and an added attraction indeed!

I saw the new sets of Corelle dinnerware at a mall recently and I find the designs and patterns of simple yet very attractive and trendy. I liked them so much I went through its website to view the rest of their product line. Curious of its claim for durability, I looked to find out what “Vitrelle”, its trademark of quality material and technology, is all about. Vitrelle came from the word “vitreous” which means having or resembling or derived from glass. The process involves thermally bonding 3 layers of glass to form the shapes. Then the glass is tempered to give it its final strength and durability. The manufacturer only uses food-safe enamel pigments that are directly fired onto the ware thus giving the designs and patterns lasting endurance. Their products are microwave safe, fade resistant, break and chip resistant, dishwashser safe and lightweight. I agree as I have tested them myself.
What’s more is that their one of a kind manufacturing technology produces plates and bowls finished products in just under 15 minutes! You could just imagine them making 100 million pieces of glass dinnerware every year! Well, this also translates to proportionate demand of their products. Because of the high customer satisfaction and awareness ratings, it was estimated that it is found in almost 40 countries. Research also showed that almost 50% of the households in America use this product.
It's my older sister's 36th birthday today! Thank you Father for adding another year to Uchie's life. She is a blessing to us and to other people as well. We are grateful for your love. I am sending you God's grace, peace and love specially today!

Following my recent post "Stop Complaining, Do Something," I have thought of creating a list of the useful things that we can do in our own little way, to contribute in changing the world. Yes there are times to stand up and let our voices be heard. But we have to provide solutions or at least be willing to be a part of the solution. We cannot remain apathetic, which means lacking of concern and involvement on this. And remember, change needs to start within us. So why don't we list down one or two things that we will consciously and deliberately do as a step of involvement. It could be anything from, proper waste segregation, conservation of water, avoid frequent opening of your refrigerator (because your electric consumption increases as many times you open it), or the use of legal power saving devices, to instilling discipline in our children like giving them the responsibility to make his/her own bed, or to put soiled clothes in the hamper, etc. etc.
Let's not forget that our children will reap the benefits of what we, parents and adults, sow today!

Here's what you should do:
1. Read this post entitled I CARE, I GET INVOLVE.
2. Just go to the comment form on this particular post (just like when you would leave a comment) and list down at least one or two things that you think may help change anything in your home, neighborhood, your nation or the world. I figured it will be difficult to keep track of and update the list if it will be passed on and be included in this "Tag". Moreover, I don't want to give you a hard time copying and pasting it on your sites as the list gets longer. So there.
3. Please note that you are to write down things that you are capable of and will consciously and deliberately do ONLY because we intend to put into action what we have written down here. So NO lying please.
4. After doing 1 and 2. Copy this post (from Start Copy to End Copy), then pass it on to as many concerned people and those who would like to get involve in changing the world, or at least a nation or a country, in their own little way.
We can get more useful ideas as we keep the list going. You may come back here from time to time, go to the comment form to check for updates. I intend to publish the list as it reaches at least 50.
END COPY HERE
I am passing this on to Racel, Darlene, Constance, Tere, Emzkie, Ana PS andCarnation .
That also goes to YOU who are reading this right now, you can get involved too! So please leave a comment.
